Studying God’s standards for Christian living and leading in the workplace

BML is a short course that will provide you with biblically based business principles to use whether you are in full time Christian ministry or in the workplace.

You will examine biblical examples of how to operate professionally with integrity in a way that pleases and glorifies God. The teaching will be focussed on understanding God’s pattern for the workplace, and grounded in a Christ Centric approach, you will study six key modules – Strategy, Communication, Management, Money, Marketing, Leadership.

Module Details

CORE MODULE: BECOMING CHRIST CENTRIC

  • Identifying our centre - an exploration of things that shape your world-view (family, church, money, work).
  • Understanding the life of Christ - looking at the qualities / fruits you should expect to see if you are emitting Christ’s life.
  • How to become Christ-centric - what you should do in order to live a Christ centred life?
  • Understanding a relationship with God - how you can have a right relationship with God and what that means.
  • How our choices affect God’s plan - seeing what is absolute and what is optional.
  • Standards – The World’s or the Word’s? - accepted business practices / principles and their compatibility to God’s word.
  • Staying ahead of the game - how to keep Christ centred and avoid the things that pull us off track

Module 1: Strategy

  • Beginning with the end in mind - looking at your motives and influences, and how to achieve your goals.
  • Developing a strategy - identifying ways to develop a strategy that is God honouring and appropriate for your/His needs.
  • Gods perfect planning! (Genesis 1) - studying creation and God’s other plans / strategies.
  • Benefits of strategic planning - looking at Biblical examples of good and bad planning and rationale.

Module 2: Communication

  • The Right Tool for the Job - exploring different communication mechanisms / channels and their effectiveness.
  • Responses and benefits - looking at the relational purposes of communication, particularly prayer.
  • Being effective - giving the right message to the right person at the right time.
  • Timing (Green & Red lights) - spiritual integrity, being bold whilst humble, communicating bad news.
  • Why communicate? - bringing truth and clarity.
  • Giving and receiving feedback - how to be compassionate.

Module 3: Management

  • Time - looking at how time management is affected by how you view yourself, others and God.
  • People - acknowledging differences, what affects behaviour and how to deal with conflict resolution.
  • Quality - exploring the standards that you set and how to measure them.
  • Crisis - looking at how you react under pressure and how to maintain integrity.
  • Project - practically dealing with day to day tasks and how to conduct yourself.
  • Finance - how to manage finances and deal appropriately with others regarding financial issues.
  • Relationship - an overview of relationships in the workplace and how they can affect you.

Module 4: Money

  • Value of Money - understanding how to be a good steward of what you have been given.
  • The Joy of Giving - looking at what, how and why you give.
  • Targets & commission - exploring the struggles of being Christ-like in a sales role.
  • Income & Earnings - seeing what the Bible says about what is right.
  • Budgeting - looking at the consequences of poor decisions, debt and poverty.
  • Investing Wisely - study of the Parable of the Talents (Matt 25:14-30).
  • Profit & Loss - what the Bible says about profit (Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Isaiah).
  • Costs & Suppliers - examining how you treat people that serve.

Module 5: Marketing

  • Branding - looking at the advantages of having a clear identity.
  • Design - creative and intelligent design.
  • Image - exploring perceptions and what people think of you.
  • Advertising - how to promote and advertise well.
  • Selling Jesus? - the rights and wrongs of marketing the Christian life and the responsibilities of salesmen.
  • Research - understanding where your target audience live, work, play, visit, shop, read, watch, browse, etc.
  • Quality - what standards should you be working to? Where is the line between BMW and ‘an old banger’?

Module 6: Leadership

  • Biblical Leadership - drawing Biblical leadership principles directly from the Bible.
  • Pastors vs Managers - understanding Biblical definitions for the roles we hold.
  • Practical Leadership - the pressures of conforming to worldly principles.
  • Christ "The servant King" - studying the perfect model of leadership.
