Under UK Government immigration rules, to be one of our Voluntary Workers you must be entitled to work in the UK.

Generally our Voluntary Workers will either:

  • be a British citizen; or
  • be an Irish citizen; or
  • have post-Brexit pre-settled or settled status (leave to remain); or
  • have a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa – currently available for nationals aged 18-30 of Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand (18-35), Hong Kong, Republic of Korea or Taiwan and certain others – see details here.
  • have a Graduate Visa – see details here;
  • be sponsored by us under the Charity Worker (Temporary Worker) Visa (see below).

If you need a Visa to volunteer with us, you will be responsible for the costs of the visa. Currently the application fee is £298 and you will also be required to pay the Immigration health surcharge (£624 for a Charity Worker Visa and £940 for a two year Youth Mobility Visa).

All Voluntary Workers from outside the UK must also have full Travel and Health/Medical Insurance including cover against cancellation, curtailment, personal liability, personal accident, medical and healthcare charges, medical repatriation and lost property for the duration of their stay.

Voluntary Workers holding a Youth Mobility Visa or a Charity Worker Visa will have paid the Immigration Health Surcharge and are covered by the NHS (National Health Service) for the duration of their stay. But this will not cover private medical health care or repatriation on a medical flight, so you must also have valid private travel (including medical) insurance.

International volunteers with a previous connection to Capernwray may be able to volunteer with us for up to 30 days under the Visitor route, but will need to pay our cost rate for accommodation and meals.

We are able to sponsor a small number of voluntary workers for our SaLT programme each year under the Charity Worker (Temporary Worker) Visa. Because of their limited number, we are most likely to sponsor applicants who have a previous connection to Capernwray.
