Capernwray Hall is a grand 19th-century manor house set in 166 acres of grounds in the Carnforth area of Lancashire, in the north-west of England. Students come from all over the world to study here.

It’s a gorgeous location! The castle, the fields and all the sheep… To live here for six months has been an absolute blessing.

Capernwray is nestled between two of England’s most spectacular landscapes – the waterfalls and rugged crags of the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the east, and the dramatic mountains and lakes of the Lake District to the west. The historic city of Lancaster is a short drive away, and Manchester and Liverpool are easily reachable for a weekend trip.

How to get here

There are several ways to reach Capernwray, depending on where you’re travelling from. The most popular routes for international students are detailed below.

Option 1: The London Charter Coach

Capernwray arranges a charter coach from London Victoria Station directly to Capernwray at the start and end of each term, and at the Christmas break. This is the easiest option if you’re flying into a London airport.

Cost is typically £40-60 depending on demand.

Option 2: By train

Manchester is the closest airport with the best rail links to us. Liverpool John Lennon airport is also in the region. Other UK airports include HeathrowGatwickStansted and Glasgow.

The nearest train station is Carnforth and is about a 10-minute ride from Capernwray. You can also arrive into Lancaster (a major train station with direct services from London Euston, Manchester, and Edinburgh), then take a local train or taxi to Carnforth.

We can collect you from the train station in Carnforth if you let us know in advance.

Option 3: By car

Capernwray Hall is just off the M6 motorway. From junction 35, follow signs for Over Kellet. At the village green crossroads in Over Kellet turn left for Capernwray. Continue straight ahead for two miles until you reach a T-junction, opposite Capernwray Church. Turn right, then take the first left into Capernwray Hall.

Weekend trips:

When possible we will plan trips out on Saturdays; these are optional. We organise day trips to places like Liverpool, Manchester, Skipton, York, or Chester.

Travel Weekends:

This is a chance for you to see some more of the UK (or travel Europe) and have fun with fellow students. You are able to go wherever you choose, but you will need to arrange for your own accommodation, while you are away. Find out more about travel weekend dates here.
