Facilities

Capernwray Hall was built in the mid-1800s as a private home for the Lord Lieutenant of the county of Lancaster, and it belonged to the Martons. Now it belongs to the wider family of God — and it still has that feel of a much-loved family home. That’s just how we like it. Before long you’ll be treating it as your own home too.

Whether you enjoy going on walks, playing board games, working out in the gym, movie nights, playing an instrument, crafting, or reading a book with a cup of tea, we are confident you will have many options to enjoy your time with us.

It’s so beautiful that there are so many people from so many different places and Capernwray can facilitate to everyone!

Sports Hall, Gym, Swimming Pool and Outdoor Games

You might not want to sit quietly all the time! In the Sports Hall you can play football, badminton, basketball, cricket, hockey, volleyball and dodgeball. When the weather is better, try our outdoor facilities for football, netball, volleyball, croquet, putting, shuffleboard, tennis and outdoor chess, spike ball, or just walk in our beautiful gardens.

We have our very own indoor pool and sauna for you to use whilst you are here. They are open to the general public or private hire groups, and available for students at different times during the week.

Organised activities and tournaments will be arranged, and you can also use the facilities in your free time.

The 166-acre estate, with its woodlands, gardens and lake, invite you to explore the outdoors right on our doorstep!

Music Practice Rooms

Our three brand-new Music Rooms house a variety of 25 instruments for our students and volunteers to learn new music, practise existing skills and praise the Lord with sung worship. The space includes three separate areas: one for larger band or ensemble practice; a second as creative space for brainstorming, writing, composing and set planning and a smaller room for solo practising or learning instruments.

Social Areas

With different seating areas, the Lounge is a good place both to hang out and chat with other people, or to find a quiet corner and read. In the winter there is often a roaring fire and there is also a piano for you to play. We have a specific Games Room set aside for indoor games such as pool, table tennis, chess and table football. It is also a good place to play board games or cards.

Everyone gathers three times a day in our Dining Hall to eat – both to refuel physically and also to build friendships and relationships. In between meals, we also serve light snacks , home-made treats and drinks in our newly renovated Beehive cafe.

If you are looking for a more secluded space to read or study, we have a Library which has, as well as the recommended books for your course, many Christian biographies and fiction to inspire and entertain you. The Quiet Room is also a set aside place to be still – to think, read, pray or study — away from the chatter and with views over the lawn. You can sink into a comfy chair or spread out a bit on a table, write notes, reflect or update your prayer journal.

The Bookshop

Our on-site bookshop offers a wide selection of Capernwray clothing, cups, bottles, bags, cards, stationery and – of course – plenty of books.
