This time last year we embarked on a new project here at Capernwray, the Serving and Leadership (SaLT) programme. This was designed for our Ministry Assistants (MAs) which was a new initiative for the long-term volunteer workers.
It is a 12-month residential volunteering opportunity that provides experience and training for developing Christians to live, serve and lead well in all walks of life. Our hope as we put the programme together was that it offered a wonderful chance to discover and develop giftings in a safe and encouraging environment whilst being able to serve the organisation.
Last Friday we said goodbye to our first group of MAs who have been with us since last September, with a graduation ceremony and a ceilidh.
On their certificates, that they well and truly deserved, is a verse, Matthew 5:13-16:
“You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
We have been blessed this year with these 13 MAs who have served us here at Capernwray, they have truly have been “SaLT of the earth”. We have been so thankful for each of them and what they have given this year.
Please pray for us as we get ready to welcome 21 new MAs who will begin their SaLT year with us on the 13th September and begin to discover what a life serving Christ can look like.
Please also be encouraged that you also can be “salt” and “light” wherever you find yourself today, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Amen
